I believe that the flag needs to be truly representative of the culture of the country. The present one is not because Maori, particularly, have not been involved in it. Even a referendum could exclude them and so we would be no further ahead. However, provided Maori are properly and completely consulted, I believe now is a good time for New Zealand to consider changing its flag.
